Reactions to the EU Parliament's Vote of 2003/09/24
Commemorate Banana Union Day

Frits Bolkestein, Malcolm Harbour and other politicians have joined in a choir of patent lawyers who are saying that "the European Parliament ruined its chances of democratic participation" by failing to vote as the patent establishment had asked it to vote. Preparations are under way to withdraw the directive and legalise software patents by means of an agreement between national patent officials, who are used to deciding patent policies among themselves.
