CEC Software Patent Consultation 2000 Submissions: Nick Longo

Nick Long, developper of music software (cesiumsound.com) and owner of several patents on music software algorithms, resents that opensource developpers, some of whom have worked together with him before, are now free-riding on him by taking the fruits of his pioneering work and reimplementing it under opensource form. If that is allowed to happen, people will be deterred from investing in finding new algorithms. This is especially so in the music field, where a lot of analogous technology is gradually being replaced by digital means, but may also be so in other fields.
