CEC Software Patent Consultation 2000 Submissions: Michael Widenius

a chief developper of MySQL (opensource database of TCX, company of 100 employees), explains that software patents are silly, harm innovation and competition and pose a grave threat to software development, especially of small businesses and opensource projects. while American companies have to spend their money keeping lawyers happy, Europeans can spend it on software development. This is a great competitive advantage. Copyright is adequate for protecting software investments.
