AT&T Sues PayPal and eBay for Patent Infringement

AT&T has sued PayPal and eBay for infringing on patent US5329589. This is a patent on, among other things, performing online credit card transactions with the help of a credit card processor. This patent has also already been granted in Europe as EP0501697

It takes time before patents are acted on -- it is only in the news today that AT&T are suing eBay and PayPal over e-payment systems; but the European version of the patent (EP 0501697) was granted back in April 1999.

The title of the US patent is "Mediation of transactions by a communications system".
